Molded pulp molds

Egg trays, fruit trays and protective packaging formed by suction and drainage.

Forming and transfer molds for molded pulp made from recycled paper and natural fibers: the pulp is formed by suction on a screen, transferred and dried outside the mold. It is the process behind egg trays, cup carriers, fruit trays and industrial protective packaging, as an alternative to EPS foam and plastic. Final scope is defined based on geometry, material, equipment, volume, tolerances, and operating conditions.

Overview

Forming, drainage, and demolding built into the tooling.

In conventional molded pulp the mold does not dry the part: it forms it. That is why the design focuses on the screen, drainage, moisture removal, transfer and repeatable demolding at high speed.

Problems we solve
Forming pulp on a controlled geometry
Designing drainage and moisture removal
Achieving repeatable demolding
Integrating screens and functional surfaces
Replacing plastic or foam packaging
Variants

Types and scope.

Forming molds

Surfaces on which pulp is deposited or formed through your process. Ideal for: Trays, packaging, and molded parts.

Molds with drainage and screens

Architecture with water drainage elements and surface support. Ideal for: Wet pulp or vacuum forming processes.

Transfer or demolding molds

Complementary components to move or release the formed part. Ideal for: Lines with forming, transfer, and drying stages.

Protective packaging molds

Geometries adapted to the product, impacts, and stacking. Ideal for: Home appliances, electronics, and logistics.

Tray and consumer product molds

Display, divider, and containment parts. Ideal for: Food and consumer goods, subject to sanitary validation.

Workflow

How we work.

01
Part and pulp definition

We review geometry, fiber, blend, thickness, moisture, finish, and function.

02
Line survey

We validate vacuum, drainage, mounting, transfer, drying, temperature, and cycle.

03
Mold system design

We define surface, perforations, screens, channels, support, demolding, and alignment.

04
Manufacturing and mounting

We machine components in aluminum and steel, along with screens and drainage elements.

05
Testing and fitting

We check forming, drainage, release, geometry, and finish according to scope.

Keep in mind

Technical considerations.

Drainage

Distribution and restriction affect thickness uniformity, cycle time, and finish.

Screens and perforations

They must balance support, flow, cleaning, maintenance, and acceptable marks.

Actual pulp

Fiber, length, additives, consistency, and moisture must be tested with the actual process.

Drying and dimensional stability

Drying time and method affect shrinkage, warping, and stability of the finished part.
