Flexible polyurethane molds

Seats, supports and ergonomic components in flexible foam.

Molds for flexible foams used in pillows, seats, ergonomic supports and industrial comfort components, with geometric control and controlled demolding. Final scope is defined based on geometry, material, equipment, volume, tolerances and operating conditions.

Overview

Geometry, closing and demolding adapted to flexible foam.

The design takes into account formulation, density, expansion, venting, surface, inserts, closing and how the part is extracted.

Problems we solve
Controlling foam geometry and density
Achieving consistent demolding
Integrating cooling or thermal control
Manufacturing seats and ergonomic supports
Modifying or maintaining existing molds
In plain terms

Need to make seats, pillows or foam parts?

What it is

It is the mold where flexible polyurethane foam expands and cures into the shape of the part, with controlled demolding so it does not deform.

What it is for

To produce pillows, seats, ergonomic supports and industrial comfort components in foam.

Flexible or rigid?

If the part must be hard, like insulation or a housing, you need a rigid polyurethane mold. For white protective foam packaging, see EPS molds.

What Fundimoldes makes

Fundimoldes designs and builds the mold. The foam parts are then produced with it, usually at the customer’s plant or their molder’s.

Variants

Types and scope.

Seat molds

Ergonomic geometries and support surfaces with defined closures. Ideal for: Furniture, transportation and technical applications.

Pillow and cushion molds

Forming of soft volumes and contact surfaces. Ideal for: Comfort, healthcare and consumer products.

Ergonomic support molds

Parts with functional geometry and assembly requirements. Ideal for: Armrests, supports, backrests and components.

Technical foam component molds

Flexible parts with a protection, sealing or support function. Ideal for: Industrial applications and assemblies.

Workflow

How we work.

01
Part and foam definition

We review CAD or sample, density, formulation, skin, inserts, finish and tolerances.

02
Machine and operation analysis

We validate the pouring or injection method, closing, temperature, demolding and cycle.

03
Mold design

We define cavity, parting, venting, closing, cooling and handling elements.

04
Manufacturing and finishing

We machine, assemble and finish surfaces according to the application.

05
Testing and fitting

We validate closing, geometry, demolding and dimensional review according to scope.

Keep in mind

Technical considerations.

Density and formulation

Foam behavior depends on chemistry, mixing, temperature and geometry; actual data is essential.

Parting and flash

The parting line must balance manufacturability, sealing, appearance and flash removal.

Inserts

Embedded components or reinforcements require positioning, fastening and protection during the process.

Surface finish

The mold texture can transfer to the part and affect demolding and appearance.
