Overview

An EPS mold must be designed around steam, drainage and the machine.

Fundimoldes integrates cavities, steam systems, closing, drainage, demolding, machining, assembly and maintenance to deliver tooling compatible with your process.

Problems we solve
Designing a mold compatible with your machine
Controlling steam; drainage and demolding

Maintaining and restoring existing molds
In plain terms

What is an EPS foam mold and when do you need one?

What it is

It is the metal tool where expanded polystyrene beads fill the cavity, expand with steam and fuse into the shape of the part. Each EPS foam part, whether a corner protector, appliance packaging or an insulation piece, needs its own mold.

What it is for

To produce lightweight EPS parts in series: custom protective packaging, protective shipping inserts, insulation parts and lightweight technical components.

When it is used

When the part has its own geometry that cutting foam blocks cannot achieve and production volume justifies tooling. If your product needs custom protective packaging, the mold is the starting point. See how custom EPS foam packaging is made.

What Fundimoldes makes

Fundimoldes designs and builds the mold: cavities, steam chambers, drainage, closure and demolding. The foam parts are then produced with that mold on an EPS shape molding machine, usually at the customer’s plant or their molder’s.

Variants

Types and scope.

Technical packaging molds

Protection and positioning geometries adapted to the product being shipped. Ideal for: Home appliances, industrial components and logistics.

Insulation molds

Tooling for lightweight parts with a thermal or separating function. Ideal for: Construction, refrigeration and technical applications.

Lightweight component molds

EPS parts with functional geometry and assembly requirements. Ideal for: Industrial products and consumer goods.

Molds adapted to existing equipment

Workflow

How we work.

01
Product and equipment survey

We review the part, target density, machine, steam, closing, injection, drainage and operating conditions.

02
Tooling design

We define cavities, structure, steam distribution, connections and demolding elements.

03
Casting and machining

We manufacture components in cast aluminum, machined aluminum and other specified elements.

04
Assembly and circuits

We integrate closures, injectors, connections and auxiliary systems.

05
Validation

We check dimensions, closing and steam conditions within the agreed scope.

06
After-sales

We provide maintenance, repairs, spare parts and modifications.

Keep in mind

Technical considerations.

Machine compatibility

The equipment’s dimensions, closing system, connections, steam, air, vacuum and mounting references are essential.

Drainage and demolding

Condensate removal and part release affect cycle time, finish and stability.

Published materials

We work with cast aluminum, machined aluminum and stainless steel components.

Process validation

The trial must define material, density, parameters, cycle time and acceptance criteria.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions.

Can you copy an existing EPS mold?+

Yes, using drawings, on-site survey, 3D scanning and evaluation of your equipment.

Do you make spare parts and injectors?+

The service can include custom components, based on a sample, drawing or reverse engineering.

What machine data do you need?+

Usable area, closing system, connections, steam, vacuum, air, mounting, stroke and equipment constraints.

Do you maintain EPS molds?+

Yes. Fundimoldes offers diagnostics, maintenance, overhaul, modifications and spare parts.

Is EPS the same as Styrofoam?+

In everyday language, white protective foam is often called Styrofoam. Technically it is EPS, expanded polystyrene, molded with steam in a dedicated mold.

Does Fundimoldes make the foam parts or the mold?+

Fundimoldes designs and builds the mold. The parts are produced with that mold on an EPS molding machine. If you haven’t decided where the parts will be produced, say so when requesting a quote.
